The main purpose that comes to mind is that sometimes we need redirects from names that are not obvious to everyone. So Fred-René Buljo is a good example of this one. His name can be any sort of combinations of Fred-René Øvergård Buljo. Having redirects to the most commonly used one gives potential editors a leg up on what other names they can search under when they write an article about him. While I do not know his Saami name, many of the people that are written about on these two wikipedias have a "passport name", variations of it, and their Saami name. -Yupik (ságastallan) ođđajagimánu 2 b. 2023 dii. 23.05 (UTC)

@Yupik: from what i understood you talk about live redirects, ofc i agree with you, i've created dozens of them and i know their purpose. what i am talking about is broken ones, the ones that doesn't serve the purpose of being redirected to anywhere.
